Dr. James Karmel is Gaming Atlantic's president and chief analyst. Dr. Karmel is a Maryland-based professor of history and gaming at Harford Community College. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the State University of New York at Buffalo (University at Buffalo). He is also the author of Gambling on the American Dream: Atlantic City and the Casino Era, a history of Atlantic City's casino years and the city's role in the expansion of legal casino gaming across the United States between 1989 and 2007. In addition, Dr. Karmel has written articles for Michael Pollack's Gaming Industry Observer, Baltimore Sun, and Pennsylvania History. Dr. Karmel was also lead historian and co-coordinator of the
"30 Years, 30 Voices" oral history project for the Atlantic City Free Public Library conducted in 2008. He is a frequent commentator on gaming. In the past, Dr. Karmel has been often quoted or interviewed by various media outlets, including:
